ansible-config man page

ansible-config — View, edit, and manage ansible configuration.


ansible-config [view|dump|list] [--help] [options] [ansible.cfg]


Config command line class

Common Options


show program's version number and exit

-c 'CONFIG_FILE', --config 'CONFIG_FILE'

path to configuration file, defaults to first file found in precedence.

-h, --help

show this help message and exit

-v, --verbose

verbose mode (-vvv for more, -vvvv to enable connection debugging)



list all current configs reading lib/ and shows env and config file setting names


Shows the current settings, merges ansible.cfg if specified


Only show configurations that have changed from the default


Displays the current config file


The following environment variables may be specified.

ANSIBLE_CONFIG -- Specify override location for the ansible config file

Many more are available for most options in ansible.cfg

For a full list check or use the ansible-config command.


/etc/ansible/ansible.cfg -- Config file, used if present

~/.ansible.cfg -- User config file, overrides the default config if present

./ansible.cfg -- Local config file (in current working direcotry) assumed to be 'project specific' and overrides the rest if present.

As mentioned above, the ANSIBLE_CONFIG environment variable will override all others.
